Pashaco

Geographical Distribution: The distribution of the species was obtained from. literature and herbal reports within the provinces of Huánuco, Loreto and Pasco, between 0 and 1000 m. above sea level. Large amounts of the species can be found in the central Amazon and average amounts in the southern Peruvian Amazon.

The tree: 30 m. tall, cylinder-like trunk, 100 cm diameter. No visible branches. Parasol-like top above half the total height. Surface of the bark is cracked. Dead bark is tom just like the Swietenia macrophylla is: long, 3 to 4-cm-thick, woody pieces. Main bark is made up of two layers: a pink, sheeted, 8-mm thick outer one and a yellowish-brown, 2-mm-thick inner one made up of little sheets.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WOOD
Color: When freshly cut, sapwood (alburnum) is creamy white and (hardwood) duramen is regular, reddish brown. Great contrast of colors between both layers. When dried in open air, alburnum turns pinkish white HUE 8/2 7.5YR and duramen turns reddish yellow HUE 6/6 5YR. Variety of pink shades to pale olive green HUE 4/3 5Y. (Munsell Soil Color Charts).

Fragrance Slightly distinctive, like vegetables.
Shine or gloss Moderate.
Grain Straight to interbred.
Texture Medium.
Streaks or patterns: Poorly-defined overlapped arches.
Vascular vertical lines.
