Paujilruro blanco

Geographical Distribution: The distribution of the species was obtained from literature and herbal reports within the provinces of Huánuco, Loreto, Madre de Dios, Pasco and San Martín, between 0 and 1500 m. above sea level. Average amounts of the species can be found in some areas of the Peruvian Amazon.

The tree: 40 m. tall, 80 m. diameter. Fairly-developed, 8-cm thick, split visible roots. Top grows over the upper fourth of the total height. Main bark is light brown and cracked in certain areas, showing round cracks arranged in short black rows.
Main bark is 1.5 cm thick, sweetish and made up of two layers: an outer one made up of yellowish fibrous bunches that turn brown when exposed to the air. White tissue in the middle. An outer layer made up of little whitish-beige sheets.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WOOD
Color: When freshly cut, (sapwood) alburnum and (hard wood) duramen are white. No contrast of color in between. When dried in open air, alburnum turns white HUE 8/2 2.5Y and duramen turns pale yellow HUE 8/4 2.5 Y. (Munsell Soil Color Charts).

Fragrance Non-distinctive.
Shine or gloss Medium to moderate.
Grain Straight.
Texture Medium.
Streaks or patterns: Clear definition, overlapped arches in the tangential area, streaked by the shades of golden radium in the radial section.

Paujilruro blanco is a fairly heavy type of wood, showing low linear shrinkage and moderately stable volumetric shrinkage.
Mechanical resistance is in the limit of medial ranks.

TECHNICAL ADVICE
Wood is fairly easy to saw. Medial mechanical resistance, little tension when sawed.
Performs well when dried in a mild, twelve-day program for 2-inch thickness.
Low natural durability. Preservation is recommendable. Alburnum is prone to biological attack, immediate process of immersion is required. Dry wood requires hot-cold bath before being used.
