In order to establish a colony with breeding pair of the same karyotype and avoid possible reproductive barriers, a karyotipic study was performed in 116 A. vociferans. Three difference karyotypes were found with diploid numbers of 46 (61%) and 48 (37 %) chromosomes. The 2n=47 karyotype was found in two female A. Vociferans which we assume were hybrids between the 46 and 48 chromosome. These findings indicate the occurrence of an incomplete fusion (or fission) event that is responsible for the high variability in Aotus chromosome number.
